MIDLOTHIAN, VA (December 11, 2014) – The law firm of Owen & Owens is proud to announce that founding partner, Mary Burkey Owens, and associate, Erica L. Giovanni, have been selected by their peers to be included in Virginia Business magazine’s 2014 Legal Elite.
All licensed Virginia attorneys are eligible to vote for the Legal Elite, and this year, more than 1,300 attorneys participated in the voting process. From the 3,461 attorneys who were nominated, only 920 were selected as the most outstanding representatives of their practices.
Mary Burkey Owens has been named one of the Legal Elite by Virginia Business magazine in the Family Law/Domestic Relations category since 2001. Earlier this year she was named to the Top 50 Richmond, Top 50 Women and Top 100 Virginia Super Lawyers, indicating she had one of the highest point totals in the nomination, research and review process. She has also been recognized in Best Lawyers in America since 2013. For over 25 years, Owens has handled complex custody, divorce, support and equitable distribution cases and is trained in the collaborative law process. She is a founding member and former president of the Metro Richmond Family Law Bar and past president of the Chesterfield County Bar Association. In 2011 Owens was honored by Virginia Lawyers Weekly as one of the “Influential Women of Virginia” who are making notable contributions to their profession and community.
Erica L. Giovanni was named one of this year’s Legal Elite for the first time and is being recognized in the category of Young Lawyer. Giovanni joined Owen & Owens in 2012 where she focuses her practice on family law and is a certified Guardian Ad Litem for children. Prior to joining Owen & Owens, she served as law clerk to the Honorable Harold W. Burgess, Jr. of the Twelfth Judicial Circuit of Virginia. She is actively involved with the legal community in the greater Richmond area and spearheads many initiatives to help more young lawyers collaborate with one another.
