Joe Owen began practicing law in 1976 after receiving his J.D. from the University of Virginia Law School. He is an experienced and well-respected trial lawyer who has achieved large jury verdicts and settlements in civil cases and excellent results for clients in criminal cases.

Having served on the Board of Directors of the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys and as a member and past president of the Midlothian, Virginia Rotary Club, Joe stays active in local and national activities. He has been recognized as one of Virginia's Legal Elite, selected by his peers, in Virginia Business Magazine. He also holds an AV rating in the Martindale Hubble attorney listing, which is the highest rating an attorney can receive through the peer and judicial review process.

Joe is a founding member of North Star Community, which was started to provide a Christ-centered approach to recovery where hurting people and families can receive encouragement, education and support in their recovery process.

He is currently the Chairman of the Drug Court Foundation of Chesterfield County which offers people with drug addictions that have been charged with a drug or larceny offense an opportunity to get intensive addiction recovery treatment and to stay out of jail.

Sam Kaufman began his legal practice in 2002 after earning a Juris Doctor degree from the Albany Law School of Union University that year. Sam is a native New Yorker and came to Richmond to attend the University of Richmond, Jepson School, where he earned a B.A. degree in Leadership with a minor in Political Science in 1999.

While attending the University of Richmond, he was a member of the Spider's Varsity Football team, 1995 - 1999, and received the Gwathmey Memorial Scholarship, an award based on academic excellence. Sam's legal practice includes representation of both businesses and individuals with a primary focus on general and civil litigation. His commercial representations include clients in diverse industries such as construction, transportation, automotive sales and banking. His personal representations include contract disputes and personal injury cases.

Legal assistants Karen Tench and Suzanne Moore are valuable members of the Owen & Owens Personal Injury, Criminal Law and Litigation Law Teams. Karen and Suzanne bring a combined total of 35 years of experience to all aspects of personal law representations, from working closely with clients and addressing their individual needs to preparing for litigation. Karen and Suzanne are often the "go to" people when clients have concerns, or when an emergency arises that needs immediate attention. Their knowledge, courteousness, and professionalism are important components of the Owen & Owens' team approach in addressing the individual needs of clients and their cases.
