Samuel J. Kaufman
Sam began his legal practice in 2002 after earning a Juris Doctor degree from the Albany Law School of Union University that year. Sam is a native New Yorker and came to Richmond to attend the University of Richmond, Jepson School, where he earned a B.A. degree in Leadership with a minor in Political Science in 1999. While attending, he was a member of the Spider's Varsity Football team, 1995 - 1999, and was a Gwathmey Memorial Scholarship recipient, an award based on academic excellence.
Sam and his wife Jordana decided to make Richmond home, and although Sam retains a hard driving New York attitude in his trial work, he's an unassuming, approachable and well-liked local guy.
Sam's legal practice includes representing both businesses and individuals with a primary focus on general and civil litigation. His commercial representations include clients in diverse industries such as construction, transportation, auto dealerships and banking. His personal representations include contract disputes and personal injury cases.
Sam has served as a volunteer at the Richmond Relief Shelter and the Virginia Poverty Law Center. He is an attorney advisor to Midlothian High School for the Virginia Bar Association's Model Judicial Program and is a member of the American Bar Association, the Richmond Bar Association, and the Chesterfield County Bar Association.
With an entrepreneurial spirit and a natural leadership instinct, Sam was younger than most attorneys that collaborate to found a new law firm. He joined Joe Owen and Mary Burkey Owens in founding Owen & Owens PLC, relying on his excellent work ethic and risk taking mentality. He is currently the Chairman of the Chesterfield County Chamber of Commerce and the Vice President in charge of Finance for the University of Richmond Alumni Association. In addition to being an avid Spider's sports fan, Sam is a passionate music fan. Having followed some of his favorite bands around the country before assuming the rigors of a legal practice, he continues to enjoy music as an amateur guitarist.
